Mpasuko Wa Kijinsia

A Documentary Film By Leyla Mohamed

About

Little do we know about gender dynamics in Africa. The literature on this subject is as rare as the people that are open talk about it. What does gender mean here? Is a man only a man? Can a warrior be a woman too? Maybe we humans live on a spectrum of in-between’s? But how does one express their sexual self in traditional or conservative environments?

Join me on a unique journey! As around the globe, unlikely queens and kings overcome sexual preconceptions; and gender-oppressed people break glass ceilings, we venture to the unspoken corners of Africa and try to unveil the secrets of Jinsia.

Story

Little do we know about gender dynamics in Africa. The literature on this subject is as rare as the people that are open enough or willing to touch the often sensitive and even taboo subjects of sexuality. Is a man really only a man? Can a woman be a warrior too? Or do we humans live on a spectrum of in-between’s? I grew up in a world that is not what it used to be.

Join me on a journey as you have never seen before! As around the globe, unlikely warriors overcome sexual preconceptions and the gender-oppressed break glass ceilings, we venture to the dark corners of Africanity and try to unveil the secrets of Jinsia, gender dynamics in Africa.
